KUMARAN ASAN

 He was born in Ezhava community on 12th April, 1873 at Kayikkara in Thiruvananthapuram

His father was Narayanan Perungudi and mother was Kaali. The chilldhood name was Kumaru

Kumaran Asan was one of the triumvirate poets of Kerala (the other two were Vallathol Narayana Menon and Ulluor S Parameswara Iye, he whe was also a philosopher, a social reformer and a disciple of Sree Narayana Guru

He is dubbed as 'Sneha gayakan' (Poet of Love) of Malayalam as he expounded the philosophy "Snehamanakhilasaramoozhiyil (Love is all ies this world) in his writings.

The richness of themes earned him the title 'Ashayagambhiran.

His first notable work was 'Veena Poovu' (fallen flower) which was scripted during hisisojourn in Jain Medu, Palakkad in 1907

It was published for the first time in the publication "Mithavadi and it marked the beginning of 'Khandakavya' in Malayalam

Kumaran Asan was the only poet in Malayalam who became 'Mahakavi without writing a 'Mahakavyam

The prefix 'Mahakavi' awarded to him by Madras University in the year 1922.

Kumaran Asan's longest work is 'Sribuddhacharitham' which is the translation of Light of Asia, a biography of Sri Buddha by Edwin Arnold

Asan authored Divya Kokilam as a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore.

Duravastha is set against the historical background of Moplah Rebellion.

He wrote two major poems on Buddhist legends: chandalabhikshuki and Karuna.

He is the first Malayalam poet whose picture was appeared on an Indian stamp (12th April 1973).

Kumaran Asan was the first General Secretary of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam.

He edited 'Vivekodayam', the mouth piece of SNDP Yogam.

Kumaran Asan was the founder of Sarada Book Depot.

He authored 'Divyakokilam' as a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore.

When Tagore visited Narayana Guru at Sivagiri in 1922, it was Kumaran Asan who translated the dialogue between Tagore and Guru into Malayalam

He died as a result of a boat accident on 16th January, 1924, aged 51. The boat capsized at Pallána and all on board drowned. 

The name of the boat was Redeemer

The spot where Asan met death is known as Kumarakodi.

Asan Memorial is at Thonnakkal in Thiruvananthapuram district.

Joseph Mundassery called him 'Viplavathinte Sukranakshatram'.

Asan World Prize was instituted in memory of Kumaran Asan.

AK GOPALAN

Ayillyath Kuttiari Gopalan was a popular Indian Communist leader.

He was born in 1904 at Peralasseri in Kannur.

He is often known as 'Pavangaludae Padathalavan' (Crusader of downtrodden).

Former minister of Kerala, Susheela Gopalan was the wife of AKG.

He was arrested for Salt Satyagraha in 1930.

In 1931, he became the volunteer caption of Guruvayoor Satyagraha which held in order to open Guruvayur Temple to all Hindu's.

1931- Kshethra sathyagraha jadha from Kannur to Guruvayur

1935- Thiruvannur cotton mill strick Kozhicode 

1936, he led a hunger March from Kannur to Madras.

In 1939, AK Gopalan joined Communist Party of Kerala.

1952- AKG was the first leader of opposition in Lok Sabha from Kasargod

1958Established Indian coffee house Thrissure

AKG died on 22nd March, 1977.

'Ente Jeevitha Katha' is the autobiography of AK Gopalan.

The state headquarters of CPI (M) in Kerala is also called AKG Center.

Indian postal department published a commemorative postage stamp on AK Gopalan on 1st October, 1990.

The Malayalam Film AKG directed by Shaji N Karun was based on the story of AG Gopalan, acted by P Sreekumar

Dr P Palpu

 Dr P Palpu was born on 2nd November, 1863 at Pettah in Thiruvananthapuram.

Parents: Thachakudy padmanabhan and Matha Perumal

He was the first medical graduate from Ezhava community in Travancore.

First Guru - Pettayil Raman Pillai Asan

1885 he joined in License in Medical Service (LMS) at Madras Medical college

1891 he is associated with Malayali Memorial

Dr P Palpu was the third signatory in the Malayali Memorial (1891), a mass petition signed by 10028 persons submitted before Sree Moolam Tirunal the King of Travancore.

Dr P Palpu was a relentless fighter for the cause of the Ezhavas in Kerala.

He was the founder of 'Travancore Ezhava Mahasabha' in 1896

Initiated the Ezhava Memorial in 1896 September 3

In 1882, he met Swami Vivekananda at Mysore.

Disappointed by the attitude of the Government of Travancore, another memorial was submitted before Lord Curzon, the Viceroy when he visited Travancore. This is known as Ezhava Memorial of 1900.

Dr P Palpu took initiative to establish Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam in 1903.

In 1904 his mother, Matha Perumal became the president of Sthree Samajam.

He wrote a book Treatment of Thiyyas in Travancore.

Wrote an article 'Thiruvithamkottai Thiyyan' published in Madraas Mail

He started Malabar Economic Union

He called Kumaranasan as 'Chinna Swami'. ('Periya Swami' was Narayana Guru)

He passed away on 25th January, 1950.

VT Bhattathiripad

 VT Bhattathiripad was born on 26th March, 1896 in Mezhathur Village, Trithala Panchayath located in Ponnani Taluk, Malappuram.

His full name was Vellithuruthi Thazhathu Karutha Patteri Raman Bhattathiripad/ Karuthapatteri

His parents were VTM Thuppan Namboothiri Padu and Sridevi Antharjanam.

VT Bhattathiripad was a Namboothiri Social reformer, Propagated Mixed Marriage


YOGAKSHEMA SABHA

Sabha was started on 31st January, 1908 in Aluva.

First President of Yogakshema Sabha was Deshamangalam Sankaran Namboothiripad.

VT Bhattathiripad was one of the prominent members in Yogakshema Sabha.

The slogan of Yogakshema Sabha is 'Make Namboothiries into human beings'.

The main monthly published by Yogakshema Sabha was Mangalodayam and Yogakshema.

In 1919, VT Bhattathiripad formed an organization called as Namboothiri Yuvajana Sangam.

In 1920, Adukkalayil Ninnum Arangatheku first published in the Magazine Unni Namboothiri.

His famous drama Adukkalayil Ninnum Arangatheku was first played in 1929 at Idakkunnu (Trissur).

First widow remarriage was conducted by VT Bhattathiripad in 1937.

‘Kanneerum Kinavum' is his autobiography, Karma vibhagam

In 1972, he got Kerala Sahithya Academy Award for his autobiography.

He died on 12th February, 1982.

- He was born in 1814 at Nakalapuram in Tamil Nadu at Ngarapuram

- Parents: MuthuKumaran and Rugmini Ammal
